Herufek Chocolate is a family-driven bean-to-bar chocolate maker located in South Moravia, Chechia, founded by Jitka and Michal Herufkovi. Their operation is supported by a tight-knit circle of family, friends, and staff members, who help bring every chocolate creation to life.
Herufek Chocolate’s story began with Jitka, who originally envisioned a career in banking while studying economics. However, a transformative honeymoon in Hawaii changed everything. Spending four weeks camping on the islands, she was captivated not just by the landscape, but also by local handmade goodies—especially cookies and pralines. This sparked her desire to pursue something heartfelt, joyful, and creative.
Back home, Jitka started experimenting with chocolate truffles using a slab of granite from a friend to temper the chocolate—a process full of trial and error. Despite humble beginnings, her creations won favor with family and friends. During her final year in university, she officially registered as a self-employed chocolatier.
In late 2014, she and Michal decided to dive deeper into chocolate—beginning the journey of making chocolate from bean to bar. They founded Herufek s.r.o., and began producing single-origin dark chocolate bars using custom-built equipment. Their mission: to showcase authentic chocolate flavors and the distinctive character of beans from different regions.
