NearyNogs

NearyNógs Chocolate is Northern Ireland’s first bean-to-bar craft chocolate maker, established in 2011 as a family business. Nestled along the scenic Mourne Coast between the Mourne Mountains and the Irish Sea, their small-batch factory produces ethically sourced, single-origin chocolate from Central and South America, the Caribbean, and West Africa. Every cacao bean is hand-sorted, gently roasted, stone-ground, aged, and tempered to craft chocolate bars that highlight the unique flavors and tasting notes of each origin.

NearyNógs emphasizes sustainability and ethical trade. They support the Rainforest Alliance and practice direct trade wherever possible, paying above-market prices to ensure farmers earn a living wage and can maintain their livelihoods. Their packaging is made from recycled, recyclable, or biodegradable materials, and the factory is now powered by solar energy, reflecting their commitment to reducing carbon emissions and protecting the environment.

The company has a strong family and community ethos. Founded initially to support charitable work and medical needs within the family, the business brings together relatives, friends, and neighbors to create chocolate while fostering connection and storytelling. The name “NearyNógs” honors family stories and Irish heritage, combining the family surname “Neary” with “Nógs,” from the Gaelic Tír na nÓg, the land of youth.
