Qantu

Qantu Chocolate’s story begins ten years ago in Cusco, Peru, when two young travelers, Elfi and Maxime, met by chance and immediately connected. Their shared passion later led them to the world of cacao in 2014, during a visit to the Alto El Sol plantation in northern Peru. Witnessing the pride and dedication of cacao farmers profoundly shaped their future.

While researching chocolate, they discovered bean-to-bar artisan makers and were amazed by the diversity and intensity of flavors, which varied significantly from one bar to another. This revelation inspired them to pursue chocolate making themselves. With Elfi coming from a cacao-growing Peru and Maxime from a chocolate-consuming Canada, their partnership became the foundation for their venture.

In the summer of 2016, their dream began in earnest. They selected trusted farmers, purchased small-scale equipment, and imported their first batch of cocoa beans. Early efforts quickly bore fruit: by June 2017, their first three Qantu bars had won two gold medals and one silver at the Academy of Chocolate Awards in London.

The name “Qantu” carries deep significance. It honors the national flower of Peru and Bolivia, symbolizing unity and hospitality. Native to the Peruvian Andes, the flower reflects both their roots and the place where their journey began. Qantu, pronounced “Kantu,” embodies the spirit and story behind their chocolate.
