Description
Luisa Abram – Dark Chocolate 70% with Cupuacu
70% bean to bar dark chocolate made with wild growing cacao from the Purus river in the state of Amazonas. This chocolate is made with an inclusion of cupuacu – a fruit from the cacao family. Cupuacu, unlike cacao, has small beans, and a lot of fruit pulp. The pulp is dried and then added to the chocolate in small pieces.
The cocoa used in this chocolate is the main source of income for Cooperar. The cooperative founded in 2007 by almost 300 workers spread over 51 communities along 800 km of the Purus River. The workers consist of river dwellers and indigenous people and in addition to cocoa, they extract bananas, beans and corn from the Amazon rainforest. Diversifying the use of forest broadens the sources of income for this population, while reinforcing the importance of keeping the forest intact.
Luisa Abram’s relationship with SOS Amazonia and Cooperar began in 2014, with an initial purchase of 60 kilograms of wild cacao. Since then, this partnership has flourished, allowing Luisa to bring out the authentic, complex flavors of the Purus region.
